Civitavecchia Lighthouse, Civitavecchia, Italy
The remains of the former Civitavecchia Lighthouse sit on a small mole in the main harbour in the port of Civitavecchia, Italy. This lighthouse was established in 1616 and the lighthouse was destroyed during World War II. The remains of the cylindrical base is all that is left of the tower. Photos were taken in September 2011.

Such a pity to see it in this state. Could only imagine what it looked like when it was still operating as a proper lighthouse. Andre Olivier, South Africa
ReplyDeleteSo true.. and there are many like this around the world and daily we see lighthouses being decommissioned and a huge part of our history is being lost.
