Newhaven East Pier Light, Leith, Scotland

Established in 1876 this light is situated on the entrance to Newhaven harbour in Leith, Scotland (Edinburgh area). Photos taken in May 2009.

Water of Leith, Leith, Scotland

This light has been relocated to the riverwalk area on the Water of Leith, Leith, Scotland. It is believed it was moved here during the redevelopment of the area in the 1990's. According to the Lighthouse Directory, it was formerly the Burntisland East Breakwater Light circa 1876. Photos taken in May 2009.

Leith West Pier Lighthouse, Leith, Scotland

Believed to have been established in 1828 this lighthouse is now abandoned and unfortunately has been vandalized. It is located in Leith, Scotland (Edinburgh port area). The area around it is being extensively redeveloped and perhaps the developers will refurbish it as part of the development. Photo taken in May 2009.

Beamer Rock, Rosyth, Scotland

This light is located on a rock in the Firth of Forth just west of the Forth Road Bridge on the approach to the port of Rosyth, Scotland (north west of Edinburgh, Scotland). It is believed to have been established in 1892. Photos taken in May 2009.

Tallinn Rear Range Light, Tallinn, Estonia

Believed to have been built in 1896, this light sits approximately one kilometer further inland than the Tallinn Front Range Light. It is just off of a busy road and in an older residential neighbourhood. Photos taken in June 2009.

Tallinn Front Range Light, Tallinn, Estonia

This unique light sits on a hillside above a park just east of the downtown area of Tallinn, Estonia. The light is not in the steeple, but rather in the upper part of the main building. It has a weathervane with the year 1839 on same. Believed to have gone into operation in 1839. Photos taken in June 2009.

Rampside Light, Rampside, England

This unique light is on the shore at Rampside, England just south of Barrow In Furness. It is believed to have been built between 1850 and 1870 as one of 13 range lights in the area. It is the only one of these lights remaining. In the bottom photo it is in the distance behind the boat at low tide to show its location. Photos taken in May 2009.

Walney Lighthouse, Walney Island, England

Established in 1804, this light sits at the South tip of Walney Island near Barrow In Furness, on the English West Coast. Photos taken in May 2009.

North Bank Light, Dublin, Ireland

Not far from the North Bull Light is this light which was established in 1882. It is also at the mouth to the River Liffey, Dublin, Ireland and is on the North side of the channel. Photos taken in May 2009.

This light etablished in 1880 sits to the North side of the channel at the enterance to the River Liffey, Dublin, Ireland and directly North of the Poolberg Light. Photos taken in May 2009.

Poolberg Lighthouse, Dublin, Ireland

This light, established in 1820 is located at the end of the Great South Wall in Dublin Harbour. The wall extends out from the mouth of the River Liffey on the south side. Photos taken in May 2009.

Built in 1904 this light sits at the end of the North Wall Quay which is on the North side of the River Liffey in Dublin, Ireland. The adjacent quay is operated by P&O. Photos taken in May 2009.

Lightvessel "Kittiwake", Dublin, Ireland

Originally built in 1957 this lightvessel (or lightfloat) was retired in 2007. It is currently moored on the North side of the River Liffey in Dublin, Ireland in front of the O2 complex (formerly Point Depot). When viewed in May 2009 it showed signs of vandalism. Photos taken in May 2009.

Baily Light, Howth Head, Howth, Ireland

Originally established in 1814, this beautiful lighhouse sits at the end of a headland north of the city of Dublin, Ireland. The adjacent area has a number of hiking trails along this beautiful coastline. Photos taken in May 2009.

Originally built in 1818 this light is situated at the end of a long pier at the entrance to the harbour at Howth, Ireland, which is North of the city of Dublin, Ireland. Photos taken in May 2009.

Lightvessel "Gannet", Dun Laoghaire, Ireland

The lightvessel Gannet (commonly known as a lightfloat) was built in 1954 and was retired from service in February 2009. I was the last lighfloat in service in Ireland. It formerly rotated between stations at South Rock and Coningberg with two other lighfloats. It was viewed moored in Dun Laoghaire harbour and as of May 2009 was for sale. Photos taken in May 2009.

Dun Laoghaire West, Ireland

Bulit in 1853 this light is at the end of the West pier at Dun Laoghaire harbour which is just south of the city of Dublin, Ireland. There is a good view of the Dun Laoghaire East light from this pier as well and if you are short on time and can only walk one of the piers, this is the better choice to have a good view of both lighthouses. Built in 1847 this light is situated on the East pier of the harbour at Dun Laoghaire (called by the locals Dun Leary) south of Dublin, Ireland. Photos taken in May 2009.

Goals

It is always a good thing to set goals, and I have found that as I get older, I sometimes forget to take the time and look at what I want to accomplish. If you have found my blog, then you can plainly see that I have a bit of a passion for seeking out and photographing lighthouses. I thought then, that I should set a goal for myself for 2009 to visit and photograph all the lighthouses in Northwest Washington and Southern British Columbia that I have not previously visited. So I have commenced my planning and have already booked an outing on a lighthouse tour in the San Juan Islands for July through Orcas Island Eclipse Charters. ( http://www.sanjuanislandslighthousetours.com/ ) There are also a number of lighthouses in on Vancouver Island that I hope to visit during the summer.
