Santiao Chiao (Sandiao Cape) Lighthouse, Gongliao, Taiwan

The Santiao Chiao Lighthhouse was constructed in 1935 and sits on the northeast cape and easternmost point of Taiwan about 53 km east of Taipei. It is a 16.5 metre tall reinforced concrete tower with a gallery. It originally had a kerosene lamp which was replaced with electric in 1942. During WWII it suffered damage but was restored and relit in 1946 and remains active. Around the site are a number of concrete sculptures and it is a very popular tourist spot. Keelung West Inner Breakwater Lighthouse (Guanghua Tower) Keelung, Taiwan

The West Inner Breakwater Lighthouse, also known as the Guanghua Tower is located on a small breakwater on the west side of the harbour in Keelung, inside of the West Breakwater Lighthouse. This unusual light is a 26 metre round concrete tower with a large structure above. Most of the tower and structure are painted blue and the roof and a small dome are painted red. The lighthouse displays a red light.This light was built in 1967 and was originally to be used for corporate functions by the Keelung Harbour Bureau. It was later (@2000) used as a cafe. It is believed that that has closed and the tower is no longer open to the public. Photo taken in March 2017.

Keelung East Inner Breakwater Lighthouse, Keelung, Taiwan

The Keelung East Inner Breakwater Lighthouse sits on a a short breakwater that is inside of the main East Breakwater at the entrance to the harbour at Keelung, Taiwan. The lighthouse is similar to the East and West Breakwater lights as it is a two stage concrete tower, however is smaller than the others at only 7 metres tall.  It is painted all green and displays a green light. Keelung East Breakwater Extension Lighthouse, Keelung, Taiwan

This lighthouse sits at the end of the East Breakwater at the entrance to the harbour at Keelung. It is believed this lighthouse dates to 2009. The light itself is a 17 metre tall round green concrete tower with a flared base. It is painted all green and has a grey gallery at the top. It displays a green light.  Photos taken in March 2017.


Keelung West Breakwater Lighthouse, Keelung, Taiwan

The Keelung West Breakwater Lighthouse sits at the end of the West Breakwater at the entrance to Keelung Harbour. Date of construction is not known. The lighthouse is similar to the East Breakwater Lighthouse as it is a two stage concrete tower. It is painted all red and displays a red light. Photos were taken in March 2017.


Keelung East Breakwater Lighthouse, Keelung, Taiwan

The Keelung East Breakwater Lighthouse is located on a long breakwater that is on the east side of the entrance to the harbour at Keelung, Taiwan. It was at one time on the end of the breakwater, but the breakwater has been extended and the newer Keelung East Breakwater Extension Light.  This light is a green two stage concrete tower 11 metres tall with a green light. Date of construction of the light is not known. Photos taken in March 2017.


St. Anne's Point Lighthouse, Milford Sound, Fiordland National Park, New Zealand

The St. Anne's Point Lighthouse dates to 1937. It sits on St. Anne's Point at the south of the entrance to Milford Sound on the South Island of New Zealand. It consists of a 6 metre white round tower with a white beacon. It has an attached equipment room and several solar panel arrays for power. Photos taken in April 2017.



Point Halswell Lighthouse, Wellington, New Zealand

The Point Halswell Lighthouse is located at the north tip of the Miramar Penninsula on the east side of the harbour at Wellington, New Zealand. The lighthouse is a 8 metre tall octagonal concrete tower with a gallery and displays a white light. The light is painted in a black and white checkerboard pattern. Date of construction is not known. Bean Rock Lighthouse, Auckland, New Zealand

The unique Bean Rock Lighthouse is located on a rock (The Rock of Kepetawa / Te Toka a Kapetawa) to the west of the entrance to the inner harbour at Auckland, New Zealand and south of North Head. The lighthouse dates to 1871 and consists of a 15 metre cast iron skeletal tower with a hexagonal wooden keeper's quarters above with a gallery at the top. The lighthouse was restored in 1985. Rangitoto Island Lighthouse, Auckland, New Zealand

The Rangitoto Island Lighthouse sits off of the western end of Rangitoto Island which is north of the entrance to the inner harbour at Auckland, New Zealand. The lighthouse dates to 1905. It is a 20 metre tall white concrete tower with red horizontal bands and has a red beacon at the top. Photos taken in April 2017.


Lei Yue Mun Lighthouse, Hong Kong, China

The Lei Yue Mun Lighthouse is located at the north east end of the Lei Yue Mun channel on the Kowloon side, across from the A Kung Ngam lighthouse. It sits on a large rock by Ma Wan Village. Light is an all green tripod with a beacon. Age of lighthouse is not certain, however articles from 2014 state that it was 50 years old at that time which would date it to the mid 1960's. Photos taken in March 2017.


A Kung Ngam (Eastern Fairway) Lighthouse, Hong Kong, China

This lighthouse sits at the northeast corner of Hong Kong Island at the northwest end of the Lie Yue Mun channel at the approach to Kowloon Bay. It consists of a 8 metre concrete tripod attached to a one story equipment building. The entire light is painted red and the top displays a red beacon. Age of light is not known. Hososhima North Breakwater Lighthouse, Hososhima, Japan

The Hososhima North Breakwater Lighthouse sits near the end of a rock breakwater at the entrance to the harbour at Hososhima, Japan. The lighthouse is a 17 metre tall white concrete tower with a flared top and a beacon above. A small equipment shed is attached to the tower. Light is active. Photos taken in March 2017.

Gaiko South Breakwater Lighthouse - Osaka, Japan

The Gaiko South Breakwater Lighthouse sits at the end of a very long breakwater that is on the south side of the entrance to the south harbour at Osaka, Japan. The lighthouse is a 19 metre round concrete tower with gallery painted entirely red. Light is active. Photos taken in March 2017. In the bottom photo, the other lighthouse in the distance is the Sakai Detached 
Breakwater North End Lighthouse.

Gaiko North Breakwater Lighthouse, Osaka, Japan

The Gaiko North Breakwater Lighthouse is locate at the end of a breakwater on the north side of the entrance to the south harbour at Osaka, Japan. Tower is a 19 metre tall round concrete tower and gallery painted entirely white. Light is active. Photo taken in March 2017.

Osaka Main South Breakwater Lighthouse - Osaka, Japan

The Osaka Main South Breakwater Lighthouse sits at the end of a breakwater at the south side of the entrance to the traditional harbour at Osaka. The lighthouse is an all red round concrete tower with gallery. Light is active. Photos taken in March 2017.








Osaka Main North Breakwater Lighthouse - Osaka, Japan

The Osaka Main North Breakwater Lighthouse is a 17 metre round white concrete tower and gallery. It sits on a short breakwater on the north side of the entrance to the traditional harbour of Osaka. Light is active. Photos taken in March 2017.






Osaka (Radar Tower) - Osaka Japan

This tower, which is part of the harbour control radar system, also acts as an active light for navigation. The tower is 50 metres tall (164 feet) and has two galleries at the top with various equipment including the beacon. The tower is a bronze or gold colour with green metal framing around the galleries. It is located on a man made island between the north and south Osaka harbours. Photos were taken in March 2017
