Rocas Contramaestra Peron, Beagle Channel, Chile

This light is located in the Beagle Channel in Chilean territory near the Argentinan border. (Admiralty G1330, NGA 111-2568). It is a short distance west of Ushuaia, Argentina. This photo was taken in March 2009. A big thank you to Russ Rowlett of the University of North Carolina for his assistance in identifying the light for me. Punta Brava Light, Montevideo, Uruguay

This light, also known as Punta Carretas Light, is on the Rio de Plata (River Plate) east of the downtown area of Montevideo. It was built in 1876 and is well maintained and is open to the public for a small fee. Photos taken in March 2009.

Cape Pembrook Light, Falkland Islands

This light was built in 1855 but has been inactive since the Falkland Islands conflict in the 1980's. It sits on a barren headland at the entrance to the harbour at Stanley on East Falkland Island.

Cape Horn Lightstation, Cape Horn, Chilie

This light, Faro Cabo de Hornos, is the most southerly lighthouse in the world. Built on Horn Island at historic Cape Horn, it is manintained by the Chilean government. It was built in the early 1990's. The photo, unfortunately a distant view, was taken in March 2009.

Faro Les Eclaireurs, Ushuaia, Argentina

This light sits on Les Eclaireurs islet at the east entrance to the harbour at Ushuaia, Argentina along the Beagle Channel. Although it is claimed to the the lighthouse at the end of the world, it is not the most southerly lighthouse in the world. It is in a beautiful setting and the islet often has sea lions basking in the sun on the rocks beside it. The two photos, a closeup and a more distant view, were taken in March 2009.

Punta Duprat Light, Valparaiso, Chile

Photo taken in March 2009. This light is located on a breakwater in the harbour at Valparaiso, Chile. It is on a Chilean Naval base.

Punta Angeles Lighthouse, Valparaiso, Chile

This beautiful lighthouse is located on a bluff just south of the city of Valparaiso, Chile. The current light was established in 1908, however it is believed that there was a lightstation at this location in the late 1800's. Photos were taken in March 2009.

Montazah Palace Lighthouse, Alexandria, Egypt

This lighthouse, although not believed to be an official aid to navigation, is believed to have been built by King Farouk I on a small islet in front of his palace in Alexandria, Egypt (Montazah Palace). It appears that he tried to creat a small replica of the orignal Pharos Lighthouse. It is visible from the palace grounds and a nearby hotel and is adjacent to a yacht harbour. Photo was taken in May 2008.

Ras el-Tin Light, Alexandria, Egypt

Photo taken in May 2008. This lighthouse is located on an Egyptian Naval Base in the harbour at Alexandria, Egypt. It is also known as Ras el-Teen Light.

Gay Head Lighthouse, Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts

The Gay Head Lighthouse is located at the Eastern end of the island of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. Photo was taken in 1998.

Nauset Lighthouse, Massachusetts

The Nauset Lighthouse overlooks Nauset Beach near North Eastham, Massachusetts. (Cape Cod). Photo taken in 1998.

Cape Spear Lighthouses, Cape Spear, Newfoundland

There are two lighthouses at Cape Spear, Newfoundland. Cape Spear, near the Newfoundland capital of St. John's, is the most Easterly point in Canada. The old lighthouse (left) became operational in 1836 and continued in operation until 1955 when the new lighthouse (right) was put into commission. My photos were taken in 1998.

Heart's Content Lighthouse, Heart's Content, Newfoundland

Plum Island Lighthouse, Plum Island, New York

Located on Plum Island, New York off of Long Island, this lighthouse which resembles a schoolhouse can be seen from the New London to Long Island Ferry. This light was established in 1827 and rebuilt in 1870. It has been decommissioned since 1978. This photo was taken from the ferry in 2004.

Montauk Point Lighthouse, Long Island, New York

The Montauk Point Lighthouse is located at the Easternmost point of Long Island, New York in Montauk Point State Park. The light was the first lighthouse in New York State and is the fourth oldest active light in the U.S.A. It was constructed in 1796 and first lit in 1797. It has been automated since 1987. The light is owned and maintained by the Montauk Historical Society. My photo was taken in 2004.

Whitlock's Mill Lighthouse, Calis, Maine

Located near Calis, Maine, the Whitlock's Mill Lighthouse sits on the south side of the St. Croix River. It was built in 1910 replacing an earlier structure. The light was automated in 1969. This photo was taken in 2004.

Walton Harbour Lighthouse, Walton Harbour, Nova Scotia

This lighthouse is located in Walton Harbour, Nova Scotia on the Bay of Fundy. Originally commissioned in 1873, it was decommissioned in the 1970's. The municipality of East Haunt's purchased it and it was declared a heritage site in 1992. Photo was taken in 1998.

Fort Point Lighthouse, Liverpool, Nova Scotia

Located in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, this lighthouse was decommissioned in 1989. Originally established in 1855, the lighthouse was restored and the land around it developed as the Fort Point Lighthouse Museum Interpretive Park which opened in 1997. Photograph of this uniquely shaped lighthouse was taken in 1998.

Seal Island Light Museum, Seal Island, Nova Scotia

This lighthouse and museum is a replica of the Seal Island Lighthouse, Seal Island, Nova Scotia. It is located near Barrington, Nova Scotia and was built in 1978. The original lantern from the Seal Island Light was installed in the replica in 1978. Photo taken in 1998.

Gilberts Cove Lighthouse, Nova Scotia

This light is also know as Gilberts Point Lighthouse. It is located Southwest of Digby, Nova Scotia, overlooking Gilberts Cove and the Digby Spit. The lighthouse was established in 1904. The light was discontinued in 1984. The grounds and light were declared a Provincial Heritage Site in 1990 after being restored by the Gilberts Cove and District Historical Society.
